Bandcamp is bringing back monthly commission-free Fridays

To help support artists during a pandemic in 2020, Bandcamp began releasing commissions for purchases carried out on the first Friday of each month. And after supporting Friday Bandcamp throughout 2021, the next Bandcamp shopping day returned on February 4th.

In total, the company said the 17th Friday bandcamp to date has paid more than $ 70 million to artists and labels during a pandemic, with more than 800,000 customers participating from starting in March 2020. After the first Friday bandcamp in 2022, the next Slate of COMMISSION-FREE SALES Days will take place on March 4, April 1 and May 6. And in case there is a doubt whether it’s a Friday or no bandcamp, there is even a useful website that can quickly sort everything.

Bandcamp said that during the free sale of commissions on average 93 percent of income made its way to musicians, with the remaining 7 percent reserved for payment processors. Meanwhile, on a regular day, around 82 percent of sales are forwarded to artists and labels, producing 10 to 11 percent pieces for bandcamps (which are still far lower than the standard Giants Tech commission 30 percent like Apple and Google received from their application stores).

Unfortunately, because there is no clear tip at the view of the pandemic, what happens to the Friday bandcamp going to the summer and fall. And with Covid-19 infection peaking today in some parts of the world, it’s really alleged anyone how long the sales day without this commission might continue before we can get back safely to in-people’s big events.
